Best Kimbap around! Made fresh and put right on the front counter makes it easy to grab and go! This is such a cute little Asian market with some great grab and go grocery staples. The owner was so sweet and kind. Located right next door to The Pantry and on State st. There is plenty of parking on the street or in the lot behind it. This is a stop you're not going to want to miss!

I saw Instagram food content a few months back when I learned both about the existence of Kimbap, and Hanmi Oriental Food in New Haven as a source of great Kimbap. I was nearby today and visited. Hanmi is a market that sells bottled, boxed, bagged, canned, etc. Asian products. They also have some prepared foods such as kimchi, and the Star of the show -- Kimbap. The Kimbap presents as a foil wrapped thin cylinder and there are a number of them waiting right at the cash register. They're that popular. When you unwrap the foil, it looks like a dry seaweed wrapped sushi roll cut into individual pieces. The seaweed wrapped sticky rice is filled with vegetables, and maybe egg. I am told by a more knowledgeable friend that Kimbap is generally eaten at room temperature without a dip like soy sauce, even though mine was slightly warm because presumably it was so fresh. It was very good. I probably liked the two kimchis we bought more though. I bought one English cucumber based kimchi and one bok choy based kimchi. Each tasted fresher and maybe somewhat less fermented than I'm used to. So both kimchis had firmer texture and were less acidic than I'm used to. Not that I'm a kimchi expert mind you, but I've had it a few dozen times over the years. It looked great too. I really liked the woman who was working the cash register, who may have even been an owner and/or manager too. She was very nice and helpful, and that makes me want to return when I don't have my son looking to get me out of there quickly. I need to explore that space. Five Stars

Just tried the kimbap (rice roll) today and it is going to be my new go-to easy lunch! It was very flavorful, balanced, perfect at room temperature, and easy to eat on the go. I am so excited that I picked up an extra roll to put in my lunch box tomorrow! I just know I'll be looking forward to it all morning.

The cutest tiny Asian grocery store in East Haven! The lady running the shop is very friendly, and her dogs are so cute and well-behaved. The space is small, so the aisles are cramped but the shelves are fully stocked. Not much fresh produce, but lots of Korean and Japanese pantry staples. Some of the items are a bit pricey ($15-$25 for nori sheets) and a few of the items were a touch expired - we bought turtle chips that were about a week past the expiration date (we still ate them!). We also bought the homemade kimbap, which was delicious! I will definitely be back, especially when I'm craving homemade kimchi and kimbap.

What a rare find in New Haven! This is an adorable gem with Asian snack and ingredients. The homemade, warm kimbaps are a must have. There were so good, we came back a second time just to grab more! Highly recommend.

The kimbaps are SO SO affordable and tasty! It was only $4 (tip: bring cash, $10 card min) and the roll was decently sized. It's definitely enough to fill me up for a breakfast/lunch/snack. It's located in a random area but there's plenty of parking (street/designated parking). The prices are higher than Hong Kong market and Million Asian, but there's definitely more Korean options in terms of snacks and frozen foods. Highly recommend!! The owner is super cute and precious. Will definitely be coming here all the time.
